Weeks Bay Reserve
Don't miss Weeks Bay Reserve, the ideal place to learn about estuaries and protecting our coastal environment.
The Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve provides a living classroom where people of all ages can learn about estuaries, those magical places where rivers meet the sea. You'll find lots to explore when visiting the Weeks Bay Reserve Interpretive Center, located on U.S. Highway 98, just west of the Fish River Bridge, between Fairhope and Foley. There is no admission fee, and the Interpretive Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. except for State and Federal Holidays. Contact the Reserve at (251) 928-9792 for more information.
Some of the many features you will find at the Interpretive Center include displays about the ecological, historical and archaeological importance of the area; live and preserved animal specimens that are native to the area; Boardwalk Trails (which are handicap-accessible); and Nature Trails. Located near the Interpretive Center on Baldwin County Road 17 is our Native Pitcher Plant Bog with (handicap-accessible) Boardwalk.
The Weeks Bay Reserve offers educational programs for K-12 school groups, August – May, Tuesday-Friday. Activities for school groups are correlated to the Alabama Course of Study for Science. For more information concerning tours for school groups contact the Education Coordinator at the Reserve (251) 928-9792.
