Rainbow trout can be caught in Alabama! Rainbow trout fishing is best in the Sipsey Fork, the Smith Lake tailwaters below Smith Lake Dam in Cullman/Winston Counties, and trout are stocked there regularly. Trout are stocked during the winter at Madison County State Public Fishing Lake. An occasional trout is caught in the Little River from trout stockings in Georgia.
A few brown trout have been found in Alabama due to stocking by anglers; a permit is required to stock any fish in Alabama waters.
