Distinguishing Characteristics:
•Stems round in cross-section, jointed and unbranching. •Leaves loosely whorled around stem in 3 different directions; leaves are narrow and 3 to 5 inches long. •Spikelets with several loosely-packed, pointed "scales" each about 1-inch long arranged alternately along a central stem. •Usually in clusters in shallow water to moist soil. |
