DGPS Coordinates | Loran Coordinates | Artificial Reef History | Roads to Reefs | Inshore Reefs | Reef Zone Map | Construction Protocol | UNOCAL Rig as Artificial Reef Mobile Bay Inshore Fishing ReefsThe Marine Resources Division has constructed a total of 14 inshore fishing reefs located within Mobile, Bon Secour and Perdido Bays, and Mississippi Sound. Concrete bridge materials, culvert pipes, concrete roof panels, oyster shells and crushed limestone were utilized as reef materials.
In addition, seven gas production platforms in lower Mobile Bay have been enhanced with fish attracting pads of crushed limestone rock. Four additional reefs are planned for Perdido and Bon Secour Bays, providing enhanced inshore fishing opportunities for anglers in the lower Baldwin County area. Lynn Dent Boykin, Bender/Austal, Shellbank, Denton, Grey Cane, Jr., and Fish River reefs are dual purpose, serving as both artificial fishing reefs and also as experimental oyster reef rehabilitation areas. The water depth above all material is approximately 3.5 feet above mean low water (MLW). Anglers should excercise caution during times of extreme low (winter) tidal conditions.
