All hunters in Alabama (licensed or license exempt) are required to report deer and turkey harvests via the Game Check system. To use Game Check, hunters are required to input a license number, Hunter Exempt License Privilege (H.E.L.P.) number, or a Conservation Identification (CID) number. While a 16-digit hunting license or H.E.L.P. number will work, the fastest and easiest way to report your deer or turkey harvest is with a 6-digit CID.

The CID number is unique to each hunter and can be used to purchase future licenses, Harvest Information Program (HIP) permits, and report deer and turkey harvests. CID numbers are also used to register for special opportunity hunts, alligator hunts, youth hunts, deer dog hunts, and trapping workshops. Unlike an annual hunting license or H.E.L.P. number, the CID number will never change – it is the only number hunters need to remember and use for the rest of their days afield in Alabama.

To receive a CID, you must have purchased an annual hunting license or have a lifetime hunting license with at least 10 digits. Hunters that have a lifetime license card with fewer than 10 digits can call 334-242-3465 and request a new, free replacement license.

Non-resident hunters who are interested in registering for a Special Opportunity Area (SOA) limited quota permit and do not have a current Alabama hunting license, can purchase a “DCNR Registration Privilege” license at no cost to obtain their CID number for registration. To obtain a “DCNR Registration Privilege” license visit www.outdooralabama.com and click Licenses in the top right of the home page and then click Purchase Your License Online. Please note, if selected for an SOA permit you must have a valid Alabama hunting and WMA license to accept your permit.

Additionally, license exempt hunters must have a H.E.L.P. number prior to obtaining a CID. License exempt hunters are anyone under the age of 16, over the age of 64, or a landowner and family that will hunt only on their property. You will need to obtain a H.E.L.P. number only once in order to receive a CID. H.E.L.P. numbers can be acquired using the Outdoor Alabama mobile app or by following the instructions below.

HOW TO OBTAIN A H.E.L.P. NUMBER

  • Visit www.outdooralabama.com and click on Licenses in the top right of the home page

  • From the Privilege Menu, select Game Check H.E.L.P. number then scroll to bottom of the page and select Continue
  • A privilege selection summary will appear indicating the purchase of your H.E.L.P. number (at no charge). Select Continue
  • Enter your driver's license number twice as requested and select Continue
  • Your personal information will appear. Make sure this information is accurate.
  • Enter your email address twice. If you do not have an email address, enter one in which you may have access to in order to receive a notification. An email address is required.  Select Continue
  • Review the information displayed on the Demographic Information page and select Continue.
  • Make sure all information is correct on the Summary Information page and select Complete Transaction
  • A Transaction Complete screen will display that contains a confirmation number and your H.E.L.P. license number. You can print this information or write down the H.E.L.P. number by hand. When writing out your H.E.L.P. number, please be sure to record it accurately.

This 16-digit H.E.L.P. number can now be used to obtain your CID number.  After you have received your CID number, this is first and last time you will need to complete the H.E.L.P license process.
