CD/Internet Course
Hunter Education CD Rom and Internet Course Information
The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries has announced an alternative delivery program that allows students to obtain partial credit for the hunter education course by completing an interactive CD-ROM or internet program. Barnett Lawley, Commissioner of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, reported "the interactive CD-ROM and internet course was developed in cooperation with seven southeastern states as a means of increasing accessibility to hunter education programs." The field days are offered throughout Alabama. Please refer to schedule summary listed below for information regarding the availability of the field days in your area. This alternative delivery format is in addition to the traditional courses scheduled in all 67 counties.
To obtain a hunter education course certificate, students must complete the interactive CD or internet program and attend a one-day hands on field day. Please scroll down this page to obtain a current schedule of field days.
The interactive CD-ROM and internet course have many activities and questions, including a 50-question test that students must complete. After completing the CD or internet course, students must return a final report to the appropriate office listed in the table below. Students must indicate on the final report which field day they would like to attend. At that time, they will enroll in one of the scheduled field days. At the field day, students must complete a standard written examination and are expected to demonstrate many skills such as loading and unloading different types of firearms, safely crossing fences, and other activities that all safe responsible hunters should be able to complete.
The hunter education internet course requires Internet Explorer 6.0. Click here to obtain a free download of Internet Explorer 6.0. Click here to login to Alabama's hunter education internet course.

To operate the CD properly, computers must have the following minimum requirements:
- 300 Mhz processor
- 64 mb RAM memory
- 12x CD-ROM Drive
Troubleshooting:
The following is information regarding two error messages that some users have experienced:
- Some users have gotten a Microsoft Word Error #1708 when trying to print the final report. This has occurred primarily on computers with a component below the minimum system requirements. However, most users have been able to print the final report by exiting out of the program and logging back in.
- The second error that has occurred involves a message regarding "Ambiguous name detected" and will have a "TmpDDE" message. The TmpDDE file is a macro created by Microsoft Word in a previous application. The file was not deleted properly during the previous application. Do the following to correct the problem and print a final report:
- In Word, select tools/macro/macros.
- From the macro dialog box - select the TmpDDE macro and delete it.
The following is a summary of field days that have been scheduled to allow students to complete the hunter education certification process after completing the interactive CD-ROM.
