Guidelines Hunt Outdoor Alabama Guidelines
Mentor
Here are some tips, which can help you be a good mentor. Remember the experiences that helped and motivated you as you were learning to hunt. Have fun sharing your love of hunting…that is your first step to being a great mentor.
- Instill basic safety and ethics – Refer to Alabama’s Hunter Education materials.
- Teach by example – Remember to practice what you preach!
- Start with the basics – Don’t assume your guests are familiar with all aspects of hunting. Make a conscious effort to explain and demonstrate everything.
- Be patient – The knowledge you have gained as a hunter came from years spent afield, it will take time for your guests to learn all you have to teach.
- Be positive – By building your guests’ self-esteem and confidence, they are more likely to want to continue to hunt.
- Provide appropriate equipment – If your guests do not have the proper equipment make sure they have it available during the hunt. Be sure they have a firearm that fits them well and is properly sighted. Proper ammunition should also be available.
- Help guests become successful immediately – Consider small game hunting or antlerless deer hunts to help your guests become successful on their first outing. The more successful they are early on, the more likely they will be to continue hunting.
- Provide knowledge of wildlife and outdoors – Help your guests develop a respect and understanding of the outdoors.
- Share your love of the outdoors - Your enthusiasm is contagious.
- KEEP IT FUN!
