Resident License Information and Applications Packets

Alabama Residents  over 65 years of age and over are exempt from purchasing the state hunting license, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, state duck stamp and wildlife management area license.  (MUST have Alabama driver's license or proof of permanent residence and age)

LIFETIME

LIFETIME:  Allows a resident (any age) to purchase lifetime privileges.  Applicant will select from the following privileges:  freshwater fishing (includes wildlife heritage), saltwater fishing, all game hunting (includes wildlife heritage), and wildlife heritage.  Cost:  varies

64 LIFETIME:  A resident age 64 purchasing an annual license will be issued lifetime license privileges.  Applicant will select from the following privileges:  freshwater fishing (includes wildlife heritage), saltwater, all game or small game hunting (includes wildlife heritage) and wildlife heritage.  Cost:  varies  - see application

FISHING

FRESHWATER FISHING:  Allows a resident age 16 - 63 (residents 64 see 64 Lifetime License) to fish the freshwaters of Alabama.  Includes the Wildlife Heritage privileges.  No trip licenses available.  Expires August 31 annually.  Cost:  $12.00

WILDLIFE HERITAGE: Allows residents age 16 - 63 (residents 64 see 64 Lifetime License) to fish in freshwater statewide with hook and line from the bank, fish in WFF operated Public Fishing Lakes (daily lake permits required), hunt small game (except waterfowl) on WFF WMA (WMA permit required), shoot on WFF managed shooting ranges and support wildlife. Expires August 31 annually.  Cost:  $10.00

SALTWATER FISHING: Allows a resident age 16 - 63 (residents 64 see 64 Lifetime License) to fish the saltwaters of Alabama. Annual licenses expire August 31. Seven day trip licenses available.   Cost:  varies - see application

SPEARFISHING:  Allows residents age 16 - 64 and nonresidents age 16 and over to spear commercial or nongame fish in freshwater and saltwater completedly submerged.  Freshwater and/or saltwater fishing license also required.  Annual licenses expire August 31 annually.  Nonresident seven day trip licenses available.  Cost:  varies - see application

DISABLED FISHING: Allows a totally disabled resident age 16 - 64 to fish the saltwaters and freshwaters of Alabama during their period of total disability. After application is completed by physician, visit your local probate office for license issuance.  Cost:  $1.00

DISABLED FISHING MILITARY VETERAN'S APPRECIATION: Allows a resident age 16 - 64 to fish the freshwaters of Alabama. Must be certified by the U.S. Veterans Administration to be 20% or more disabled. Present VA certification letter to your local probate office. Includes the wildlife heritage privileges.  Expires August 31 annually.  Cost:  $3.00

WIREBASKET: Allows a resident (any age) to catch non-game fish in public freshwaters for personal consumption. Prices and number of baskets vary depending on county. Not allowed in all counties.   Cost:  varies - see application

An ALABAMA RESIDENT can fish from the bank in their county of residence with hook and line  (live bait only) without purchasing a license.  Resident must be able to provide reasonable proof of residency while fishing. 

HUNTING

HUNTING: Allows a resident age 16 - 63 (residents 64 see 64 Lifetime License) to hunt all legal game within Alabama. All-Game license required for deer or turkey. Includes the wildlife heritage privileges. Expires August 31 annually. No trip licenses available.  Cost:  varies - see application

HARVEST INFORMATION PROGRAM - HIP:  Required of all licensed migratory bird hunters.  Cost:  N/C

DUCK STAMP - STATE: Allows a resident age 16 - 64 and nonresident age 16 and over to hunt migratory waterfowl within Alabama and its coastal waters. Appropriate hunting license and HIP stamp also required. Stamp is issued electronically. Expires August 31.  Cost:  $6.00

DUCK STAMP - FEDERAL: Allows persons age 16 and over to hunt migratory waterfowl within the United States.  Appropriate hunting license and HIP stamp also required.  Electronic stamp only available by phone.  Original stamps available in most county probate or license commissioner's office.  Expires June 30 annually.  Cost:  $15.00

WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Allows residents age 16 - 64 and nonresidents age 16 and over to hunt big game (deer or turkey) and waterfowl on WMA, in addition to the appropriate hunting license and WMA map/permit (free). Shooting range users on WMA are required to have a valid hunting license, WMA license or Wildlife Heritage license. Expires August 31 annually.  Cost:  $16.00

COMMERCIAL FOWL HUNTING PRESERVE TRIP: Allows residents age 16 - 64 to hunt on a licensed commercial fowl hunting preserve for seven consecutive days with no other license required.  Cost:  $10.00

DISABLED ARCHERY PERMIT:  Allows disabled persons to use a device that holds the bow at full or partial draw, to hunt in Alabama.  Crossbows require no permit.   Cost:  N/C

COMMERCIAL

ALLIGATOR FARMER:  Allows persons (any age) to engage in business of raising alligators for restocking, propogation and other commercial purposes.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $1,000.00

ALLIGATOR PARTS DEALER:  Allows persons (any age) to deal in alligator parts and to buy parts from an alligator farmer for the purpose of reselling or manufacturing.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $25.00

ALLIGATOR RETAIL:  Allows persons (any age) to purchase alligator parts and sell canned alligator parts.  Allows restaurants to sell alligator meat for consumption.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost: $5.00

COMMERCIAL FISHING:  Allows residents (any age) the use of commercial fishing gear in the public waters of Alabama for the purpose of taking nongame fish.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $100.00

COMMERCIAL FOWL HUNTING PRESERVE:  Allows persons (any age) to commercially operate a preserve on which artifically propagated birds may be hunted by licensed hunters.  Pen raised birds may be hunted from October 1 through March 31 on licensed preserves.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  varies - see application

COMMERCIAL QUAIL BREEDER:  Allows persons (any age) to engage in the business of propagating pen-raised quail for restocking and other commercial purposes.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $25.00

DOG TRAINER:  Allows persons (any age) to engage in the business of training dogs for hunting or field trial purposes for remuneration or profit.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $5.00

FISH DEALER - FRESHWATER NON-GAME RETAIL / WHOLESALE:  Allows persons (any age) to sell non-game fish taken from public waters, live or dead.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  varies - see application

FUR CATCHER:  Allows residents (any age) to take, capture or kill fur-bearing animals for commercial purposes. License not required to trap beaver or to trap for non-commercial purposes.  Must reside in Alabama 6 months prior to making application.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $8.40

FUR DEALER:  Allows persons (any age) to engage in the business of  buying, trading, selling, or otherwise dealing in rawfurs, skins, or pelts of fur bearing animals.  Must reside in Alabama one year prior to October 1 of the application year in order to qualify for resident license.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  varies - see application

GAME BREEDER:  Allows persons (any age) to engage in the business of raising and selling game birds, game or fur bearing animals or eggs of such birds for propagation purposes.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  varies - see application 

MUSSEL BUYER:  Allows persons (any age) to buy or purchase any type freshwater mussel, mullusk or shell.  Must reside in Alabama for 12 months prior to making application in order to qualify for resident license.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $101.00

MUSSEL CATCHER:  Allows persons (any age) to take or catch, or attempt to catch, any mussel or mullusk for commercial purposes from the freshwaters of Alabama.  Must reside in Alabama for 12 months prior to making application in order to qualify for resident license. Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $251.00

PUBLIC DISPLAY OF CAPTIVE WILDLIFE PERMIT:  Allows persons (any age) to possess wildlife in captivity for public exhibition purposes.  Excludes privately owned zoo, wildlife exhibit, traveling zoo or circus, or pet shop.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $25.00

TURTLE CATCHER / DEALER / FARMER:  Allows CATCHER (any age) to take, collect, possess, or harvest any legal turtle species from public or private water for commercial purposes.  Allows DEALER (any age) to sell, purchase, trade, import or export live turtles.  Allows FARMER (any age) to engage in business of propagating captive turtles or eggs for restocking sale or other commercial purpose.  Expires August 31 annually.  Cost:  N/C

FALCONRY PERMIT:    Allows persons (any age) to possess certain approved raptors and to utilize said raptors in hunting legal game animals during specialized season.  Expires June 30 of third calendar year after issuance.  Cost:  $7.50

ORGANIZED FIELD TRIALS PERMIT:  Allows persons (any age) to participate in field trial without purchasing a hunting license.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  N/C

PROPAGATION PERMIT: Allows persons (any age) owning property in the state to raise game, game birds or fur bearing animals for the exclusive purpose of stocking private or protected lands under the control of the permit holder. Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  $1.00

SALE OF POND RAISED GAME FISH:  Allows persons (any age) to sale game fish raised in hatcheries and sold for stocking of ponds and lakes, nonnative game fish raised for human consumption and largemouth bass, shellcracker, and bluegill raised in farm ponds.  Expires September 30 annually.  Cost:  N/C

SCENTIFIC COLLECTING PERMITS:  Allows persons (any age) to collect a protected wild animal, bird or eggs of any bird in the state for propagation or scientific purposes.  Applications and Reports must now be submitted electronically.  For further information on obtaining a permit or using the electronic system, you can download the following instructions: 

STOCKING PUBLIC WATER PERMIT:  Allows persons (any age) to stock any fish, mussel, snail, or crayfish into public waters of Alabama.  Cost:  N/C

TRAINING BIRD DOGS PERMIT:  Allows  licensed  hunter  or  licensed dog  trainer to  train  bird dogs at any time of year using shotgun and live ammunition during closed season.  Only pen raised banded birds may be taken.  Cost:  N/C

WILDLIFE DAMAGE PERMIT:  Allows persons (any age) to kill protected birds or animals causing crop or property damage during daytime, nighttime, or in closed season.  Issued on a temporary basis.  Cost:  N/C
