Montgomery, Ala. — The Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (SEAFWA) named Grady Myers as Alabama’s 2007 Enforcement Officer of the Year. The award was presented at the association’s annual meeting in Charleston, West Virginia. SEAFWA is an organization whose members are the state agencies with primary responsibility for management and protection of the fish and wildlife resources in 16 states.
A native of Prattville, Alabama, Myers began his career with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) as a Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF) enforcement officer in 2004. He was assigned to Montgomery County until this past June when he transferred to Autauga County, both in District IV.
According to his supervisor, Captain Larry Hicks, Meyers is an outstanding officer respected by his peers and very deserving of the award. “Grady is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic officers in the Department,” he said. “He is absolutely an officer to emulate.”
As a strong supporter of teaching youth the values and traditions of the outdoors, Myers has taught hunter education classes to hundreds of students. Additionally, he works in the annual WFF District IV Youth Dove Hunts in which young hunters take part in learning how to hunt safely and effectively. Myers actively works with local Boy Scout troops and volunteers with Iron Kids Ministries taking terminally ill children hunting and fishing.
Myers resides with his wife Amy on their small farm in Autauga County.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
