And on April 14th and 15th, it's also the only place in Alabama to enjoy the sweet sounds of award-winning blues artists set against the backdrop of this exquisite environmental oasis – the soulful Mobile Bay delta. This weekend of celebration and song will start each afternoon at Five Rivers with outdoor concerts, then continue well into the evenings with live entertainment and coastal cuisine at nearby eateries. Photo Contest Captures the Essence of Outdoor Alabama Frogs and fishermen, beaches and butterflies, waterfalls and wildlife – Amateur photographers capture the essence of outdoor Alabama Even Alabama's biggest outdoor enthusiasts haven't seen all this great state has to offer, so this year, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is bringing some of that beauty inside in hopes of inspiring more residents to get outside. For the next nine months, a collection of winning images from the 2007 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest will travel the state, highlighting the best in Alabama's natural beauty. The 21 winning color photographs were all taken in Alabama, by Alabamian amateur photographers. Beginning in April, the collection will be shown in eight cities – starting in Birmingham, then traveling to Montgomery, Mobile, Eufaula and Tuscaloosa, then on to Huntsville and Rogersville and in the fall, and ending its state-wide tour in Guntersville in January. In addition to traveling as part of this special display, each of the winning photos can be seen in the February 2007 issue of Outdoor Alabama Magazine, and is displayed online here. Click here for more information on the traveling exhibition. |
