Have Fun and Be Safe
Consider Introducing Someone to Hunting
With bow season currently underway and gun season starting on November 19, now is the perfect time to talk about the number one game animal hunted in Alabama, white-tail deer.  Approximately 180,000 deer hunters account for more than 4 million man-days of hunting activity each year, which has a significant impact on the local economy of many parts of the state. Aside from the economic impact, deer hunting serves as a way to reconnect with our natural roots. This year consider taking along a first-time hunter or mentoring a young hunter. Practice hunter safety at all times. Above all, have fun, be safe, and good luck. Also, check out our new hunter safety PSA!
Piedmont Plateau Birding
Trail Launches in November
Alabama’s newest birding trail will officially open on Nov. 17, 2011, when representatives from nine east-central Alabama counties launch the Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail. The official trail launch will take place at 1 p.m. CST at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park near Alexander City, Ala. Three years in development, the Piedmont Plateau trail now features 35 approved sites covering an area of 3.5 million acres. This trail is one of eight that will ultimately cover the entire state. Other trails currently in operation are the North Alabama Birding Trail and the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail. When completed, the eight trails are expected to be collectively marketed as part of a statewide system of cohesive trails and loops. More
