Weeks Bay Area River Cleanup
The 12th Annual Weeks Bay Area River Cleanup was held May 10, 2008, as part of the Alabama Renew Our Rivers Campaign. Volunteers set out at 8 a.m. on boats, kayaks, and by foot. A total of 100 volunteers returned at noon with piles of debris and a strong need to change into the t-shirts each was given earlier in the day. With a dumpster full, an estimated 5,000 pounds of plastic, food containers, fishing materials and hurricane debris was taken from Fish River to be put to rest.

A clear-bottom kayak was donated by long-time water lover and Olympic Kayaker, Tom Schlinkert. The wonderful prize went to the hard working Magnolia Springs Boy Scout Troop.
