Weeks Bay Area River Cleanup

CTP coordinator, Mike Shelton, assigning clean-up stations to volunteers

The 14th Annual Weeks Bay Area River Cleanup will be held May 8, 2010, from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon at the Fish River Marina under the bridge on U.S. Hwy 98 as part of the Alabama Renew Our Rivers Campaign. Volunteers are needed to pick up debris by boat, kayaks, car/truck and by foot along Weeks Bay, Fish and Magnolia Rivers, and their tributaries.  Lunch will be provided to all participants and free t-shirts will be available while supplies last.

Over the last several years, volunteers have collected well over 30,000 pounds of debris from waterways and bridge-crossings in the Weeks Bay watershed. Some of the unusual items recovered over the years include a large plastic motorcycle, a refrigerator, bucket seats, an air conditioner, a muffler and a person-sized plywood fish.
