The M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area (State Cattle Ranch Phase II) in Hale County is a blackbelt prairie site that includes a mix of grassland habitats and pine-hardwood forest situated between drainages of Big German Creek. This 1,311 acre acquisition provides for habitat restoration opportunities of prairie grasslands, as well as numerous recreation opportunities that include field trial sites and handicap hunting stations. In partnership with the Forever Wild Program, an additional 646 acres of land were acquired by the State Lands Division.
