As Hurricane Ivan ripped through the state of Alabama, many State Parks were affected by flooding and structural damage. Below is more information regarding status of some of Alabama State Parks after Hurricane Ivan:
Gulf State Park:
- Beach renourishment is underway!
- 154 renovated campsites opened. The campsites have larger pads, 50-amp service, water and sewer hook-ups.
- The Gulf lodge is closed indefinitely after being severly damaged by the tidal surge.
- The far east end of the old beach pavilion parking lot and beach opened March 1st.
- The picnic area is open and swimming is allowed in the designated swim area.
- The pier was destroyed but plans are progressing to construct a new pier.
- The golf course is open.
- The 20 park cabins are open.
Meaher State Park:
- The board walk is closed.
- A portion of the fishing pier is open, but the end is closed.
- All other areas are open.
