Apple Snails - Family Ampullariidae

Apple Snails in Alabama

Island Apple Snail Pomacea insularum. Has been found in tributaries to Mobile Bay. Lives in lentic habitats. Exotic.

Florida Apple Snail Pomacea paludosa. Poorly known. Restricted to Gulf Coast drainages. Usually lives in areas with little to moderate current. Moderate Conservation Concern.

Note: In Alabama, it is illegal to release or stock or move any fish, mussel, snail or crayfish to any public waters without a permit.
