Shearwaters and Petrels

Shearwaters, Fulmars - Family Procellariidae

Cory’s Shearwater Calonectris diomedea. Rare to uncommon in summer and fall in Gulf Coast region. Pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Greater Shearwater Puffinus gravis. Occasional in summer, fall, and early winter in Gulf Coast region. Mostly pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Sooty Shearwater Puffinus griseus. Occasional in Gulf Coast region. Mostly pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Audubon’s Shearwater Puffinus lherminieri. Occasional in Gulf Coast region. Pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Storm Petrels - Family Hydrobatidae

Wilson's Storm Petrel Oceanites oceanicus. Fairly common in summer in Gulf Coast region. Pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Leach’s Storm-Petrel Oceanodroma leucorhoa. Rare in summer. Pelagic. Found in the Gulf.

Band-rumped Storm-Petrel Oceanodroma castro. Fairly common in summer. Pelagic. Found in the Gulf.
