Distribution: North America: Cumberland and Green rivers in Kentucky and Tennessee and Ohio River in southern Illinois (Hobbs 1989); one record from the Tennessee River system in Alabama.
Alabama: Known only from a single record from the Paint Rock River drainage within the Tennessee River system. Bouchard considered this record to be a possible introduction.
Habitat: Streams in depressions under rocks.
Conservation Status: MODERATE CONSERVATION CONCERN.

Note: In Alabama, it is illegal to stock or move any fish, mussel, snail or crayfish to any public water without a permit.
