Celebrate the 6th Annual Wehle Outdoor Spring Festival, Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wehle Land Conservation Center in Midway, Bullock Co. The event is sponsored by the State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR).
During the event enjoy the spring air as you walk among blooming plants and visit the educational exhibits and vendors including displays from the State Lands Division, Alabama Forestry Commission, and Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and the Wildlife Group. There will also be bird banding demonstrations, native plant exhibits and rides through the woods. Kettle corn, boiled peanuts, goat’s milk soap, pine needle baskets, apple butter, and Bullock County’s finest barbeque will be sold by various vendors. Free garden plants will be provided by Bonnie Plants until they are gone.
Admission is free to all. Educational prizes will be available for children. New to this year’s festival is a Kids Fishing Derby at the nature center pond. This fishing event is a cooperative effort between the State Lands Division and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
The Wehle Land Conservation Center features more than six miles of horseback riding trails, three fishing ponds, boating, canoeing and various woods roads for hiking, biking and wildlife observation. The Wehle Land Conservation Center is open to the public the first and third Saturday of each month and is located approximately five miles southeast of Midway, Ala. on County Road 47.
