Firearms 101: Afternoon Session at the Cahaba WMA Shooting Range

The Introduction to Handguns class is perfect for those who want to learn more about handguns, target shooting and firearm safety in a controlled environment. The class is taught by firearms instructors from the Law Enforcement Section of ADCNR's Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division.

Located at 3956 Coalmont Rd., Helena, AL approximately 10 minutes southwest of Helena, Ala.

The following topics are covered:

  • Safe handling and storage of firearms
  • Parts of semi-automatic pistols & revolvers
  • Marksmanship
  • Live fire on paper and steel targets

Eye and ear protection, as well as a .22 rimfire handgun and all the ammunition needed, is provided free of charge. If you already have your own handgun and appropriate ammunition, please feel free to bring it for use in the class.

You will need a Wildlife Heritage License to participate. It can be purchased at local probate offices and at many sporting goods stores or online.

Note: Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

Registration is strongly advised as the Introduction to Handguns courses have limited participant capacity and quickly fill up.
