Oak Mountain State Park will host a “Golf Appreciation Day Grand Opening” Friday, July 29. An all-day tournament is being held as part of the grand opening for the golf course, which has undergone major renovations since being closed in 2004.
Several sports media personalities will compete in the tournament with the winners securing donations to the charity of their choice. The charitable donations are being provided by Alabama Power Company. Some local officials will also participate in the day of golf. The majority of participants will be local golfers that play regularly at the Oak Mountain Course.
Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled to take place at 12:30 p.m. in front of the pro shop.
“I am very excited about the grand opening at Oak Mountain,” said Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley. “We have been anticipating this day for some time and the course is filling in and really looking great.” Commissioner Lawley went on the say, “I am very pleased with the way the pro shop turned out during these renovations and I think we have taken great strides in returning the course at Oak Mountain to the prominence it enjoyed in the past. Alan Blalock did a good job on the course design and we are pleased with the positive comments we are receiving from individuals that have played the course since the renovations were completed.”
