Campgrounds which Governor Bob Riley made available to Katrina storm victims are now opening up as families move from temporary housing to long-term facilities.
During the evacuation and emergency housing phase of the hurricane relief, many families found shelter in FEMA trailers set in State Park campgrounds. At the end of October 2005,
As part of the next phase, the displaced people are now moving out – some back to their home areas and some into longer-term housing elsewhere. A number of families are staying until the end of the school year.
The process of moving FEMA trailers out and restoring the parks’ campsites doesn’t happen overnight. The campsites are becoming available as the FEMA facilities are removed.
