Help Shape the Future of Alabama Turkey Hunting: Participate in the 2026 Wild Turkey Brood Survey
How was the hatch this year? The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries needs your eyes on the ground.
Whether you are scouting your favorite hunting spots, managing property, or simply going about your daily routines, your observations provide vital biological data. By participating in our annual summer survey, you directly assist biologists in monitoring nesting success, brood survival, and the distribution and abundance of wild turkeys across the state.
Survey Period: June 1 to August 31 ONLY. Please do not report observations outside of these dates.
Submission Deadline: September 10
What to Look For and Report
We need a complete picture of Alabama's wild turkey population. Please report all turkeys you see in both rural and developed areas, including:
- Hens with Poults (young turkeys)
- Hens without Poults
- Male Birds (both Jakes and Gobblers)
Note: Look carefully! Poults blend into summer habitats perfectly and can be highly difficult to spot in tall vegetation.
How to Submit Your Observations
Reporting is easier than ever. Choose one of the three convenient methods below to log your sightings:
Option 1: Web Browser/Mobile App
You can log observations from your desktop, laptop computer, or mobile phone. Simply click the link below, and you will be prompted to select "open in browser" or to download the "Survey 123 Field App." Follow the onscreen instructions from there. (Fill out the requested details and use the interactive map to zoom in and click the general area where you spotted the birds.)
Option 2: Traditional Paper Form
If you prefer keeping a physical logbook while in the woods, you can use our printable paper data sheet.
Important: To ensure your data counts, you must manually transfer your paper logs to the online browser link before the deadline. Please do not mail or email physical forms to ADCNR. Treat each row on your paper sheet as an individual online submission.
