Waterways South of I-10 Closed to Boating

Effective immediately, all waterways south of Interstate 10, including Mobile Bay, Perdido Bay and The Intercoastal Waterway are closed to boating except for non-fishing commercial traffic. The closing includes commercial fishing and recreational boating. The Alabama Department of Conservation today implemented the emergency regulation to facilitate cleanup and emergency response to Hurricane Ivan.

Boaters may impede safety crews such as the Alabama Marine Police, U.S. Coast Guard and local law enforcement, so residents are asked to comply with the regulation for the safety of everyone in the area.

Conservation officials say that just as soon as conditions warrant, the area will be reopened to boating.
