Conservation Advisory Board to Meet May 21 in Talladega

The Alabama Conservation Advisory Board will meet Saturday, May 21, at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega. Registration for those wishing to address the board will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

This is the third meeting of the Advisory Board during 2005 and all have been at different locations. The February meeting was held in Montgomery and the March meeting in Rogersville. “I made a commitment to the people of Alabama to have these meetings more often and in different parts of the state,” said Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley. “Doing it this way gives people more of an opportunity to participate and be heard.”

The Conservation Advisory Board assists and advises on matters relating to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The Board is composed of 10 members appointed by the governor for alternating terms of six years, and three ex-officio members in the persons of the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and the Director of the Cooperative Extension System. The Commissioner of Conservation and Natural Resources serves as the ex-officio secretary of the Board.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Parks, State Lands, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
