Wehle Nature Center in Bullock Co. Hosts 5th Annual Spring Festival
April 23, 2010
The 5th Annual Wehle Outdoor Spring Festival will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wehle Land Conservation Center in Midway, Bullock County. The event is sponsored by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) State Lands Division. Admission is free and educational prizes are available for children.
The dogwoods are finally blooming after a long cold winter and the Wehle Outdoor Spring Festival is the perfect way to celebrate the coming of spring. The festival offers many family-oriented activities including: bird banding demonstrations, archery and fishing demonstrations and wagon rides through the woods. Several educational exhibits will also be on display to excite kids about the wonders of our outdoor world including: a bee hive exhibit, fossil exhibit, butterfly exhibit, and turtle diversity exhibit.
Vendors will be selling food and other handmade products such as kettle corn, boiled peanuts, honey, goat’s milk soap, pine needle baskets, hand-crafted wooden bowls, and Bullock County’s finest barbeque.
The Wehle Land Conservation Center features more than six miles of horseback riding trails, three fishing ponds, boating and canoeing; and various woods roads for hiking, biking and wildlife observation. The center is open to the public the first and third Saturday of each month and is located approximately five miles southeast of Midway, Ala. on County Road 47. Take U.S. Hwy. 82 from either Montgomery or Eufaula to Midway and follow the “Nature Center” signs. For more information, call 1-800-LAND-ALA.
