Class for women at DeSoto State Park includes pitching and striking camp, fire craft, water processing, proper camping etiquettes, food and bear safety, and map reading basics. There are different sleeping options to try: tent, hammock, or shelter.
Instructor will also demonstrate making your own backpacking food and cooking on the camp fire.
Hiking is moderate, about a mile one-way to the backpacking campsite.
Meet at DeSoto’s Nature Center, next to the Country Store on County Road 89.
Cost: $75 per person - includes all equipment. You will need to provide your food.
Discounts available if you have your own backpacking equipment.
