Trapping was a widespread activity in the early days of North American settlement. The youth trapper education workshop is an outreach program that gives students and parents the opportunity to experience and learn an outdoor skill that helped to settle this country. The workshops pass on the historical aspects of trapping, biological information about furbearers and furbearer management, and allows students to learn the proper techniques that include the use of trapping as a sound wildlife management tool.
This program is administered by the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division with assistance from cooperators such as the Alabama Trappers and Predator Control Association, and Safari Club International.
