January 15: Falconry Demonstration at Blakeley State Park, 8:00am & 9:00am
At 8:00 and 9:00 AM, our Mark Wetzel will demonstrate a falconry hunt at Blakeley State Park. Mark is a biologist, educator, and master falconer. This is an outdoor activity involving a live raptor and an actual hunt. Not suitable for children under age 12. Walking involved. This cruise departs from the Bartram Landing at Five Rivers Delta Resource Center aboard Blakeley Historic Park’s “Delta Explorer” pontoon boat.

Weather permitting, join a 5 Rivers educator for a walk around 5 Rivers and learn how to spot birds, identify birds, and make a list of the birds that you see. We will report our findings to eBird, a citizen science initiative created by Cornell University. This is an outdoor activity so dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes. On February 20th Historic Blakeley State Park invites all those interested in the literary arts to join us at Five Rivers Delta Resource Center for our annual Alabama Authors Day. This special celebration showcases the work of accomplished writers throughout the state, with an emphasis on Gulf Coast authors and those who explore topics associated with regional history and natural heritage. February 20: Great Backyard Bird Count Bird Walk, 9:00am
Join us to count birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count. We will gather on the deck behind Delta Hall to start a walk around property with a goal to count all the birds that we see. The information that we gather will be reported to birdcount.org, which is a collaboration of Audubon, The Cornell Lab, and Birds Canada. The data collected in this worldwide endeavor is used by scientists to monitor bird populations and trends. For the novice birder, attend to see what birding is about and get more familiar with local species. For the veteran birder, help us spot species and listen for bird calls. Also welcome are those that might just want to take an interesting walk around the property! 9am. FREE.
