Lakepoint State Park Hosts Fins, Feathers and Flowers Event Feb. 18-20

The 2022 Fins, Feathers and Flowers event at Lakepoint Resort State Park is scheduled for February 18-20. Like the Eagle Awareness weekends held at Lake Guntersville State Park, Fins, Feathers and Flowers offers a variety of conservation-themed activities for all ages. The park is located at 104 Lakepoint Dr., in Eufaula, Alabama.

“This year we have expanded our field trip offerings, basic fishing instruction, boat tours of Lake Eufaula and added archery instruction to the event,” said O’Dell Banks, Lakepoint Superintendent. “Fins, Feathers and Flowers is a great introduction to the many recreational opportunities available at Lakepoint, Lake Eufaula and the national wildlife refuge. We invite anyone who is interested in the outdoors to attend.”

The weekend begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 18, with a Conservation Fair, evening social and welcome session. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet representatives from various conservation groups throughout the state as well as Alabama State Parks naturalists and park rangers. The evening’s keynote speaker will be Jimmy Stiles from the Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. He will speak about the benefits of prescribed fire in Alabama’s forests. The evening concludes with a night hike featuring “Archimedes” the screech owl.

Saturday morning starts with a field trip to the Houston Unit of the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge followed by breakfast at the lodge. Several birding, wildlife watching and outdoor recreation opportunities are also planned throughout the day. Saturday’s keynote speaker is Dr. Lianne Koczur from Alabama Audubon. She will share the history of bird banding and present-day tracking techniques.

Sunday events include a guided hike of Lakepoint’s newly built Diverse Use Trail and “Radical Raptors” presented by Gulf State Park. For a complete weekend schedule, visit
