Fish Stocking Guidance
Most Alabama ponds are managed using largemouth bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish. Proper stocking and harvest management are critical to maintaining balanced fish populations and quality fishing opportunities.
Do not stock fish from nearby creeks, rivers, or other ponds. Unauthorized stocking may introduce undesirable fish species, fish diseases, and long-term management problems.
Aquatic Plant Management
Aquatic plants are a natural part of pond ecosystems, but excessive plant growth can interfere with fishing, recreation, and pond productivity.
Before using herbicides or introducing grass carp, pond owners should properly identify aquatic plants and consult with fisheries staff or other qualified professionals.
Always follow pesticide and herbicide label instructions and applicable regulations.
