Six Courses, One Name: The Parks Path, an Alabama Golf Destination

March 12, 2012

After months of accepting submissions for a name that combines all six Alabama State Parks golf courses into a single trail, a name has been chosen, The Parks Path, an Alabama Golf Destination. The courses will also be rated, sloped and handicapped for the Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) system.

Also new to Alabama State Parks golf experience is the Parks Path Golf Card, which allows players to receive a discount off green fees at any of the six courses in the trail. The cards will be available for purchase at the Joe Wheeler, Oak Mountain, Lakepoint, Roland Cooper, Gulf, and Lake Guntersville pro shops.

“The Park’s Path is both fun and challenging, while providing an affordable alternative to private courses,” said Randy Jinks, marketing manager for Alabama State Parks. “The trail’s name was chosen by combining various suggestions that were submitted through alapark.com.”

Courses included in the Parks Path are:

The “General” at Joe Wheeler, Joe Wheeler’s rank in the Confederate Army.
The “Oaks” at Oak Mountain, which represents the wide variety of oak trees in the park.
The “Sanctuary” at Lakepoint, which represents the nearby national wildlife sanctuary.
“Deer Haven” at Roland Cooper, which highlights the large local deer population.
The “Refuge” at Gulf State Park, represents the nearby national wildlife refuge.
The “Eagle’s Nest” at Lake Guntersville, honors the return of the nation’s symbol to Alabama.

For tee times, green fees, and reservations contact the individual parks or visit www.alapark.com.
