Lakepoint Resort State Park Lodge to Get “Extreme Makeover”
CONTACT: State Parks
Within the next 30 days, the lodge at Lakepoint Resort State Park in Eufaula, Alabama will be closed for extensive renovations to the tune of $10 million. The facelift of the lodge first built in the late 1960s/early 70s, is scheduled to begin within the next 30-60 days and is projected to take two years to complete.
Alabama State Parks Director Mark Easterwood is excited about the remodeling but stresses that the other activities and lodging facilities at Lakepoint Resort State Park will remain open during construction. “All of the recreational activities such as golf, boating, fishing and fishing tournaments, camping, hiking, picnicking, and more will continue during construction of the lodge,” said Easterwood. “Plus, we have 10 new, beautiful, modern cottages on the lake and 29 modernized cabins (some on the golf course) for rent and a full service marina and grill.” Check-in for cabins and camping will be temporarily located in the park welcome center located just inside the park gate. Also, the Lake Eufaula Car Show will be hosted by Lakepoint Resort State Park on August 25.
The updates to the lodge are funded through a 1998 $100 million bond issue. Once completed, the lodge will have updated guest rooms, state-of-the-art banquet and conference facilities, resort dining restaurant, and new swimming pool. Additionally, the reopening of the renovated lodge will create new jobs and generate more economy for Eufaula and surrounding areas.
